Planning for a Thriving 2026

As we are well into the festive season, I would like to wish every resident of Salisbury a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Christmas is a time for reflection, generosity, and togetherness, and Salisbury has once again demonstrated the strength of its community spirit over the past year. From volunteers supporting vulnerable residents, to local businesses contributing to a thriving city centre, and community groups bringing people together, I am continually proud of what we achieve when we work collectively.

The past year has brought both opportunities and challenges. Like councils across the country, Salisbury City Council has faced rising costs, inflationary pressures, and increasing demand for services. Despite this, we have continued to focus on delivering high-quality services, maintaining our public spaces, supporting local events, and investing in projects that enhance the character and vitality of our historic city.

As we look ahead to the New Year, it will soon be time for the Council to set its budget for the coming year. This is one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to us as councillors. Setting the budget is about making careful, considered decisions that balance ambition with realism, and short-term needs with long-term sustainability. We are committed to setting a balanced and responsible budget that safeguards the Council’s financial position while continuing to deliver excellent value for money for the residents of Salisbury.

Every pound we spend must work hard for our community. That means prioritising essential services, managing resources efficiently, and ensuring that public money is used transparently and effectively. It also means making thoughtful investments that support economic vitality, environmental sustainability, and community wellbeing, so that Salisbury continues to thrive for future generations.

Engagement with residents is vital as we make these decisions. Your views, feedback, and involvement help shape our priorities and ensure that the Council remains focused on what matters most to the people we serve. I would encourage residents to stay engaged with the work of the Council as we plan for the year ahead.

Finally, I would like to thank my fellow councillors, our dedicated staff, and the many volunteers who give their time and energy to support our city. Your commitment makes a real difference to the lives of others.

On behalf of Salisbury City Council, I wish you all a peaceful Christmas, a safe and restful festive season, and a New Year filled with hope, health, and opportunity.
